Huawei Mate X folding 5G smartphone at MWC 2019

Since then, both Samsung and Huawei have announced the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X respectively.

Huawei has launched its foray into foldable smartphones, with the Huawei Mate X officially unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2019 as a competitor to Samsung's Galaxy Fold and a device that could focus on productivity.

The Mate X comes with an 8-inch screen with a resolution of 2480×2200 pixels.

The Mate X offers a front-facing 5.6-inch screen with a resolution of 2480 x 1148 and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

The Galaxy Fold is harnessing a new 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display which allows the phone to have a tablet-sized screen that can be folded in half and fit into a pocket. "It is the most sophisticated hinge in the world", Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group said on stage this morning. The device, called the Mate X, comes just four days after the fanfare of Samsung's similar Galaxy Fold device. The rear part of the folded display also lets a subject see themselves when the camera is open, whether they're taking selfies or someone else is snapping a shot of them.

But there is a groove (sidebar) which runs across the length of the phone to hold the smartphone and houses the USB Type-C port for charging. This is also where Huawei has placed all three cameras on this phone. Featuring what Huawei calls a falcon wing hinge and a flexible exterior screen, the Mate X's design is nearly the exact opposite of what Samsung did with the Galaxy Fold. There was no white-gloves tenderness about his use of the device: he unfolded and folded the Mate X quickly and naturally, and I got no sense of any fragility about the slate.

Nick Sandmann files lawsuit against the Washington Post
The high school student seeking $250 million from The Washington Post has a "reasonable case" for libel, attorney Alan Dershowitz said.

Samsung's mmWave radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) and digital/analog front end (DAFE) ASICs supports 28GHz and 39GHz bands, which can reduce 5G base station size, weight, and power consumption by 25 percent. That translates to overall download rates in excess of 4 Gbps, a figure that Huawei says is more than twice the top speed of Qualcomm's current 5G modem, the Snapdragon X50. The device will also have 55W SuperCharge, with claims that the Mate X can charge up to 85% of its battery in 30 minutes.

The Mate X boasts some power in it, too.

Huawei, which is also the world's biggest producer of telecoms equipment, is under intense scrutiny in the West over US -led allegations of enabling Chinese state espionage, accusations which the company denies.

Here's what you need to know about the Huawei Mate X.

"What separates Huawei's newest release, however, is the addition of a 5G-ready modem - a feature that Samsung was reluctant to include so early in the development of this new technology".
