LG G8 ThinQ hands-on Palm-reading Android adopts smarter sensors

EE has announced an exclusive partnership with LG to launch the manufacturer's first 5G smartphone, the V50 ThinQ 5G, to United Kingdom consumers later in 2019. The company did not give in-display sensor in LG G8 ThinQ and opted for a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. However, it is unlikely that the device comes with a 5G variant.

- Oppo: Yesterday OPPO announced its global 5G partnerships and Telstra can today announce that customers will have access to OPPO's first 5G handset when it launches in Australia.

To start with, the camera with the 8mp lens has been decked with the IR sensor as well as a transmitter designed for the motion-captioning purposes and 3D mapping.

The new front-facing camera feature has been developed by Germany's Infineon Technologies, can scan in three dimensions - making it more secure than existing biometric methods of unlocking phones such as fingerprints. On the other hand, LG V50 is mostly famous for the upcoming 5G Technology. When connected, this 6.2-inch OLED panel can be used as a normal screen, but you can do anything else on the main display of the phone at the same time. It features a 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision display and features the usual notch.

If 5G isn't high on your priority list, there's an alternative in the form of the LG G8 ThinQ, a more "normal" phone that seemed to capture the interest at the post-launch scrummage for demos even more than the V50.

Hanoi Postcard: Children hope to give Kim comradely welcome
Kim is expected to arrive on Monday or Tuesday for a state visit before the summit with Trump on Wednesday and Thursday. Vietnamese officials have shared few details about the specifics of a summit that the world will be watching closely.

In terms of audio, the LG G8 ThinQ comes with boombox speakers, 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, DTS:X 3D surround sound and support for HDR10. Some are specific to the device, while others are more universal and can also be used on other Android phones. Notably, the add-on screen draws power from the phone as it lacks its own battery.

LG are also introducing another version of the handset, the LG G8S ThinQ which comes with a 6.2 inch display with a resolution of 2248 x 1080 pixels and 6GB of RAM. There’s 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage which can be increased further by a microSD card.

The smartphone houses a 12MP primary sensor with f/1.5 aperture, 16MP secondary super wide sensor with f/1.9 aperture and a 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture with LED flash.

The system is processed by Snapdragon's 855 CPU and Adreno 640 GPU. Similar to LG 8 ThinQ, this smartphone is another high-end phone by LG coming in 2019. Time of Flight (ToF) Z Camera also take an attendance, which is pooled with infrared sensors to support Hand ID palm vein verification.

While an innovative feature is always a selling point for mobile devices, an experimental one that doesn't yet work properly is not a good sign.
