Boateng, Hummels and Muller no longer part of Low's Germany plans

Joachim Low Confirms Key Bayern Trio Will No Longer Be Considered for German National Team

The German Football Association have forcefully ended the global careers of World Cup winners striker Thomas Muller and defenders Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels.

Loew made the announcement with Germany to host Serbia on March 20 in a friendly, before playing a Euro 2020 qualifier away to the Netherlands four days later.

"They will continue to do so for their club".

"2019 is the year of a new start for the German national football team", said Loew.

Germany have been in a period of soul-searching since their dismal exit from the 2018 World Cup, and Low explained "this is the year for our new beginning" as he axed the trio with a combined 246 caps.

"As a matter of principle, we do not comment on the sporting decisions of the national coach as the selection of the national team squad is exclusively the responsibility of Joachim Low", the statement read.

"You could have thrown these three players out of the national team two months ago, after so many years of merit, and not a week before the important match in the Champions League". I was totally dumbfounded by this decision out of the blue by the national coach. "Now it's up to them to take on responsibility". "FC Bayern has great respect for the contributions of Thomas, Mats and Jerome to the national team and German football".

DFB president Reinhard Grindel said now was "the right time" for Low to overhaul his personnel, adding: "I appreciate that Joachim wants to carry on changing the shape of the national side".

Hummels and Boateng, Germany's successful centre-back partnership before the disaster at the finals in Russian Federation, have played in 70 and 76 internationals respectively.

Mueller scored 38 goals in 100 appearances for Germany and had been a mainstay since finishing joint-top scorer at the World Cup in 2010, when he won the Best Young Player award.

"I do not understand why this decision must be so final".

"I was young myself and reliant on older players to make room for me".

At the weekend, Low also indicated that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, another Bayern star, could lose his place in the Germany squad. "But I would have obviously wished for a different departure".

Hummels and Boateng, both 30, played together in the 2009 U21 European championship triumph as Germany started to reap the first rewards of a major and sustained investment in youth players that had started seven years earlier.
