Huawei Technologies CFO Meng Wanzhou arrived at B.C. Supreme court as she faces extradition to the US over security concerns related to the Chinese tech giant.

The Chinese tech giant announced on Thursday it would be filing a lawsuit against the US government, which has accused Huawei of being a spy threat and placed restrictions on its products.

"The US congress has repeatedly failed to produce any evidence to support its restrictions on Huawei products", said Mr Guo.

Separately, Huawei's chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou is suing Canada over her arrest at the request of the US.

The most recent high-profile target was South Korean retailer Lotte, which sold land to the Seoul government for a US anti-missile system opposed by Beijing.

"Section 889 prevents us from serving our USA customers, damages our reputation and deprives us of serving other countries", Guo said.

Update 2 (9:31PM EST): Huawei brings up that US companies have weak "cyber security hygine" as the data breaches that happened over the past few years such as Equifax were all unrelated to Huawei.

Huawei is suing the U.S. over a government ban on its products, raising the stakes in a protracted diplomatic incident between China, the United States and Canada, where a Huawei senior executive is facing extradition.

Mike Smyth: Butts on hot seat in SNC-Lavalin scandal
He has "no memory" of her asking him to reprimand staff and says at no point did she suggest anyone had done anything wrong. Butts resigned from his role as principal secretary in the Prime Minister's Office on February 18.

As the global rollout of 5G approaches, Australia's former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has brought attention to the fact that the Five Eyes nations (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the US) do not have any telecoms capable of winning the 5G race.

The United States has accused Meng - Ren's daughter - of bank and wire fraud related to breaches of trade sanctions against Iran.

The privately owned firm has embarked on a public relations and legal offensive as Washington lobbies allies to abandon Huawei when building 5G networks, centering on a 2017 Chinese law requiring companies cooperate with national intelligence work.

Washington also tried to pressure other governments into banning the company's products.

Shifting tone, Ren in mid-February said Meng's arrest was politically motivated and "not acceptable".

During the proceedings they referred to US President Donald Trump's Twitter remarks in December when he alluded to dropping the extradition request if the US and China reached a trade deal.

Outside, a small group of protesters burned a China flag, and waved placards calling for Meng to be extradited and demanding Beijing release the two Canadians.

Asked whether other countries such as Australia that have been pushing back on using Huawei technologies could face similar legal action in the future, Elena Collinson, a senior project and research officer at the Australia-China Relations Institute at the University of Technology in Sydney, said even if it did the likelihood of success would be low.

Some legal experts, however, said Huawei's lawsuit is likely to be dismissed because USA courts are reluctant to second-guess national security determinations by other branches of government.
