Nvidia offers bid for Israeli chip firm Mellanox: report

As well as gaining significant resources from Mellanox, Nvidia's deal keeps these same resources out of the hands of direct competitors like Intel.

"The emergence of AI and data science, as well as billions of simultaneous computer users, is fueling skyrocketing demand on the world's data centres", said Jensen Huang, founder and chief executive of California-based Nvidia.

Representatives for Nvidia, Mellanox and Intel declined to comment.

"The deal will give Nvidia an even bigger market share in the data-center market", he said.

Connectivity and bandwidth are increasingly becoming a bottleneck in datacenter and artificial-intelligence applications as the size of workloads and datasets increases, according to Stacy Rasgon at Bernstein. The company is known for producing high-speed networking components using Ethernet and InfiniBand. All three companies offered prices above Mellanox's market capitalization of $5.9 billion when markets closed Friday.

Judger Barger was asked by WHNT if he knew that he was granting an aborted fetus legal rights, but he declined to comment. Ryan Magers is suing Alabama Women's Center for Reproductive Alternatives for aborting the fetus he says he fathered.

"But going out and buying an asset right now, immediately after the recent spate of guide downs may raise a few eyebrows", Rasgon added.

Nvidia cut its fourth-quarter revenue estimate by half a billion dollars in January because of weak demand for its gaming chips in China and lower-than-expected data center sales.

A chip expert says the deal will give Nvidia an even bigger market share in the data-center market, which Reportlinker says will reach revenues of around $174 billion by 2023.

The headlining transaction has already been approved by both companies' boards of directors and is expected to close by the end of calendar year 2019. That gap may reflect concern that chip deals have foundered on regulatory approval delays and blocks amid a trade dispute between China and the U.S. We are focused on accelerated computing for high performance computing, and Mellanox is focused on networking and storage for high performance computing, and we have combined the two companies under one roof.

Nvidia has invested heavily in its datacentre and AI technologies over the years and acquiring Mellanox will be an extension of that.
