Lori Loughlin Charged in Bribery Scheme Bragged About Daughter Getting Into College

On Tuesday, Huffman was arrested for allegedly taking part along with numerous others, including sitcom star Lori Loughlin, in a scam described as, "the largest college admission fraud ever uncovered".

Defendant William Singer was paid roughly $25 million dollars by parents to help their children get in to schools.

Prosecutors say parents paid an admissions consultant $25 million from 2011 through February 2019 to bribe coaches and administrators to label their children as recruited athletes to boost their chances of getting into schools.

Some of the most prestigious and exclusive higher-education facilities in America, including Stanford University, Yale University, and UCLA, were allegedly targeted by the scheme.

In all, 44 people, some of them college coaches, have been charged thus far.

Federal prosecutors in Boston charged William "Rick" Singer, 58, with running the scheme through his Edge College & Career Network, which charged up to $2.5 million per child for the services, which were masked as contributions to a scam charity. Charges faced by those prosecuted include wire fraud, racketeering and money laundering.

Felicity Huffman was arrested in college bribery case by 7 Federal Bureau of Investigation agents with guns drawn.

Some 33 parents, including Huffman and Loughlin, were charged, as well as 13 coaches and associates of Singer's business.

Federal prosecutors released a massive federal indictment on Tuesday that showed these parents allegedly paid for a college prep organization to take entrance tests for them. Huffman also discussed the scheme in a recorded phone call with a cooperating witness, the indictment said.

A representative of Huffman did not immediately respond to HuffPost's request for comment.

Huffman, 56, is accused of paying $15,000 disguised as a charitable donation to enable her elder daughter to cheat on the SAT, which she took in December 2017.

Singer also fabricated "impressive athletic profiles" for applicants to apply as athletes - knowing full well that universities have allocated slots for students who play sports. Authorities said in many cases the students were not aware of the fraud.

Athletic coaches from Yale, Stanford, USC, Wake Forest, and Georgetown (among others) are also implicated, per the documents, as well as parents and exam administrators.

He went on: "For every student admitted through fraud, an honest, genuinely talented student was rejected".
