Indian traders plan protests against Chinese goods

Paris: France on Friday made a decision to freeze assets belonging to Masood Azhar, chief of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), the French government confirmed.

Outraged by China blocking for the fourth time a move to designate JeM chief Masood Azhar a global terrorist, responsible UNSC members warned they "may be forced to pursue other actions" at the Security Council if Beijing continued with this policy. India's attempts to impose sanctions against the Pakistan-based terrorist came after a suicide attack allegedly orchestrated by the JeM in Kashmir's Pulwama district killed nearly 50 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), which says it represents 70 million traders, will hold burnings of Chinese products across the country on March 19 to "teach China a lesson", India's Economic Times reported Friday.

India has expressed disappointment that a measure by the U.N. Security Council to name the head of the Islamic militant group, Jaish-e- Mohammad (JeM) as a global terrorist, has been blocked by China.

The comment piece advised New Delhi to resort to quiet diplomacy instead of extensively directing aggressive rhetoric to pressurize Beijing, the Azhar issue could have been better addressed. The group was behind the recent suicide bombing that brought New Delhi and Islamabad to the brink of war. "Bow to Xi in China", Gandhi said in Twitter.

JeM chief Masood Azhar. Since 2009, the Indian government has tried to designate Azhar as a global terrorist for orchestrating the 2001 attack on India's parliament and the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, which killed more than 160 tourists and local civilians.

In retaliation for the Pulwama terror attack, for which JeM claimed responsibility, India launched air strikes across the Line of Control against Pakistan, which retaliated in similar fashion. "Bow to Xi in China".

The Security Council 1267 Committee has clear standards on the procedures of designating terrorist organisations and individuals, Lu said.

The move comes a few days after China put a technical hold on a resolution seeking to blacklist Masood Azhar in the United Nation Security Council.

China has blocked three previous attempts at the committee on sanctions against Al-Qaeda and IS-linked groups to blacklist the JeM leader.

There will be negative impact on India-China relations. The Chinese decision has disappointed India and the U.S., the UK, France and Germany that had backed the proposal.

He claimed that China's move is "very easy to understand" considering India has been "sheltering an enemy" of China since decades.

".We can not, of course, accept this as it means falling out with China and it would be very unfair for a great country like China not to be in the Security Council", he tweeted, quoting from the letter.
