Supermoon 2019: "Super worm equinox moon", last supermoon of 2019, starts tonight

Spring officially arrives on March 20 with a rare lunar phenomenon known as a "full worm super moon", the third and final full super moon of 2019.

While that phrase may sound like something out of a children's book, the name actually has a legendary meaning. The last time we've seen a full moon rise on the same date as an equinox was in 1981, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.

Supermoons occur when the moon is full or almost full and also at its closest point to Earth along its slightly elliptical orbit, according to NASA.

The insane thing with all this is the "full " happens on Wednesday at 8:43 p.m. local time. It's simply when the moon appears larger than a normal full moon.

A full moon and the spring equinox haven't occurred this closely since 2000, and won't sync up again until March of 2030.

If you miss Wednesday night's supermoon, you'll have to wait until next year to catch another one.

Infiniti to withdraw from United Kingdom and Western Europe in 2020
Infiniti vehicles will no longer be made in Sunderland from the middle of 2019, auto giant Nissan has announced. About 70,000 of Infinite cars have been made in Sunderland since production began in 2015.

That is not to say there will not be other full moons this year.

Some Native American tribes also referred to this moon as the Full Crow Moon when the cawing of crows signaled the end of winter, or the Full Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees.

While engaging in spring festivities, remember, the "early bird" gets to see the "Super Worm Moon".

AccuWeather reports the next supermoon isn't set to rise until february 9, 2020. Perigee happens because the moon's orbit is not a flawless circle, so there are times when it is relatively close to us on Earth and other times when it is comparatively far away.

If you're not able to view the supermoon Wednesday, a live stream of the moon rising above Rome, Italy, will be available from the Virtual Telescope Project beginning at 9:45 a.m.

It will be the last of a trio of supermoons that kicked off the first three months of 2019.
