Dallas County's measles case had stayed at home during their period of potential contagiousness and therefore did not result in any additional public or workplace exposures. Those affected range from age eight months to 63 years.

According to the CDC, two doses of the MMR vaccine are about 97 percent effective in preventing measles, and one dose is about 93 percent effective.

"These outbreaks are linked to travelers who brought measles back from other countries such as Israel, Ukraine, and the Philippines, where large measles outbreaks are occurring", the CDC website states, adding that people should be vaccinated before traveling internationally.

As a result of high vaccination rates in general, measles hasn't been widespread in the United States for more than a decade.
