Sacramento general manager Vlade Divac fired Dave Joerger on Thursday after the coach helped develop the young Kings into playoff contenders before ultimately falling short in the franchise's 13th straight losing season.

Walton leaves the Lakers with two years remaining on his five-year deal.

Walton's contract with the Kings reportedly aligns with Divac's contract, which goes through the 2022-23 season. "We wish Luke and his family the best of luck moving forward".

A day after Walton became the latest casualty of the Lakers' disappointing regular season, ESPN and The Athletic both reported that the deposed coach will not be unemployed for long.

Prior to joining the Lakers, Walton spent two seasons as an assistant coach on Steve Kerr's staff with Golden State, winning an National Basketball Association title in 2015.

Perez thinks Newcastle are safe after scoring the victor at Leicester
The Spanish forward flicked in a near-post header from Matt Ritchie's left-wing cross in the 32nd minute at King Power Stadium . Perez wasted a good chance to double Newcastle's lead early in the second half when he volleyed wide from Rondon's cross.

As for how Walton fits with the Kings - it could be a seamless fit.

Lue coached the LeBron-led Cavs for two more seasons before being fired and replaced with Larry Drew in October 2018 following a 0-6 start to the season.

"I said today on Undisputed that it felt like Jeanie Buss would dig in and keep Luke Walton, to spite Magic and LeBron".

The NBA Playoffs begin on Saturday and the Golden State Warriors are favorites to win it all again.

"I think Luke did a hell of a job with what he had, the cards he was dealt", point guard Rajon Rondo said. The Lakers' season fell apart during the longest injury absence of James' career, and they ended the season with almost every important player in their young core sidelined by injuries. Things have changed now, and the Kings' head coaching vacancy is easily the most desirable opening now, and the Kings and Walton had mutual interest, which allowed the process to move very quickly.
