WATCH Devastation Wrought by Deadly Tornado in Texas

According to CNN, the death toll includes a county worker in Alabama, a Texas woman whose mobile home was destroyed and two children in east Texas who were struck by a tree that fell on their vehicle.

The National Weather Service says a tornado touched down Sunday evening in Shelby, Ohio, about 90 miles (145 kilometres) southwest of Cleveland.

"There are short spin-ups, pockets of heavy rain and damaging winds that can still hit before this pushes off shore". There were no immediate reports of any injuries.

"The severe weather threat should be quickly winding down by late morning", the National Weather Service said. And at least three weak tornadoes struck Alabama on Sunday.

Communities were coping Monday with structural damage and power outages and schools have been closed. The Angelina County Sheriff's Office says an 8-year-old and 3-year-old died after the tree hit the back of the auto in Lufkin, about 115 miles (185 kilometers) northeast of Houston.

That number was down to about 14,700 shortly before noon, but weather forecasters say it could go up again as the winds pick up.

According to AccuWeather, the deadly storm system spawned "dozens of tornadoes" across the southern states.

Sheriff Cantrell said there will be more information available Sunday morning. Another person - whose name has not been released - also drowned after their vehicle was submerged in floodwaters in Calhoun, LA. Trees were toppled and minor damage was reported in residential areas east of the campus.

No one was injured as the twister cut a 1 ¾-mile swath near Buffalo Valley in East Buffalo Township, the service said.

The tornado swept through Richland County at about 4:42 p.m. Sunday. An 82-year-old man who was in the home was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

Winds may also be breezy at times.

The next round is expected on Thursday ahead of a cold front, according to the National Weather Service.

"The storm is so vigorous that tornadoes are still possible after dark", Myers said.
